Crash game guide for the UK: what is legal, what is offshore, and where each game actually lives
Plinko, Chicken Road and Aviator each pull 6,000 to 7,000 UK searches a month, Spaceman 5,000, and the generic phrase crash game only 600. Half of those games are at Gambling Commission casinos. The other half are not, and that distinction matters more here than anywhere else in Europe.
A crash game, in the sense this site uses, is a casino round where a multiplier climbs from 1.00x and you cash out before it stops. It is not the orange marsupial, and if that is what you were after, Google will happily take you back. This page is the UK edition of the category: which games British players actually search for, which of them a Gambling Commission casino is allowed to carry, and where the rest are hiding.
The UK is unusual. In Kenya or India every crash game is in the same lobby. Here, the regulator decides game by game, studio by studio, and the answer has changed twice in the last twelve months. So before the game pages, the map.

What British players search for
The numbers are flatter than in any other market we cover. Plinko leads at about 7,300 searches a month for the bare word, plus 2,700 for "plinko game" and a long tail of "plinko uk", "plinko casino" and "bitcoin plinko". Aviator is close behind at 6,600, though a good share of that is the Woodford hotel, the coat and the film. Chicken Road, which did not exist before April 2024, is at 6,300 plus 5,100 for "chicken road game". Spaceman gets 5,100, some of it Adam Sandler.
Then a gap. "Limbo game" 1,300 (mostly the Playdead platformer, some of it the Stake original), "chicken road app" 1,100, "aviatrix" 1,000 (mostly the leather jackets), "plinko app" 700, "crash game" 600, "anthony joshua crash x" 450.
Two things stand out. No single game dominates the way Aviator does in Africa and South Asia. And the biggest growth is in games that are not at licensed casinos: Chicken Road went from zero to 6,000 UK searches in under two years without a single UKGC operator carrying it.
The legal position, game by game
Online gambling in Great Britain is legal only with an operator licensed by the Gambling Commission. That is the whole rule, and it is a good one: a UKGC licence means segregated player funds, an ADR scheme for disputes, GAMSTOP self-exclusion, affordability checks, and a studio whose game files have been tested by an approved lab. Offshore sites, usually licensed in Curacao, offer none of that to a UK player, and it is an offence for them to target Britain, though not an offence for you to play.
What complicates crash games is that the studios, not just the casinos, need a licence to supply the UK market. So the question "is this game legal in the UK" really means "does the studio hold a UKGC licence and has any UK casino chosen to carry it". Here is the position as we last checked it:
| Game | Studio | UK studio licence | At UKGC casinos? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spaceman | Pragmatic Play | Yes | Yes, widely |
| Plinko | Various (Spribe, Hacksaw, 1X2, in-house) | Depends on version | Yes, in several versions |
| Cash or Crash | Evolution | Yes | Yes, live casino sections |
| Aviator | Spribe | Suspended Oct 2025, reinstated 2026 | Not yet seen back at the major sites |
| Chicken Road | InOut Games | No | No, offshore only |
| Limbo | Stake Originals | No | No, offshore only |
| Aviatrix | Aviatrix | No | No, offshore only |
| Crash X | Turbo Games | Not that we have found | No, offshore only |
The Spribe row needs its own paragraph because it is the thing most UK crash players got wrong this year. On 30 October 2025 the Gambling Commission suspended Spribe's licence for what it called serious non-compliance with its hosting requirements: Spribe was hosting Aviator for operators including 888, BetVictor and Paddy Power without the separate game-host permission that hosting needs. The big UK brands pulled Aviator and Spribe's Plinko within days. The suspension was lifted at the end of March 2026 in a two-line update to the original notice. As of our last lobby check, Aviator had still not returned to the major UK sites, and the trade press points at the Remote Gaming Duty rise to 40% from April 2026 and the trademark dispute with Aviator LLC as reasons operators are in no hurry. Spribe is licensed in the UK again. The game is not back. Both things are true.
A few other rules. Credit cards have been banned for gambling since April 2020. The 2025 online slot stake limits (拢5 a spin, 拢2 for 18 to 24 year olds) apply to slots by definition, and whether a crash game counts depends on how the operator classifies it. And every licensed site must offer deposit limits, time-outs and a reality check, which ten-second rounds need more than most.
Paying at a UK crash game site
Licensed casinos all run the same four rails, and they are the same rails you use for everything else.
Debit card. Visa or Mastercard, instant deposit, withdrawal in one to three working days. Credit cards are refused by law. Most sites now use Visa Direct or Mastercard Send for faster card withdrawals, so a few hours is becoming normal.
PayPal. The fastest round trip at the sites that offer it. Deposit instant, withdrawal usually within a few hours at bet365 and William Hill. Not every licensed casino has it, and some exclude PayPal deposits from welcome offers.
Apple Pay. Instant deposit from a debit card held in Wallet. Withdrawals go back to the underlying card rather than to Apple Pay itself.
Bank transfer through Open Banking. The "Pay by Bank" button. It opens your banking app, you approve the amount, done. No card details shared. Withdrawals by Faster Payments typically land the same day.
Minimum deposits are 拢5 to 拢10. If a site is asking you for Bitcoin, it is not licensed here.
Where to play crash games in the UK
These are the UKGC-licensed brands we hold accounts with, in the order we would suggest them to someone who wanted to try Spaceman or Plinko tonight with a debit card. None of them has Aviator at the time of writing, for the reasons above, and none has Chicken Road.

1bet365
Spaceman and its own Plinko under Games; debit card, PayPal, Apple Pay; the quickest PayPal withdrawal we timed.

2Betway
UK licence, Spaceman in the casino lobby; the crash range for UK accounts is thinner than its African lobbies.

3William Hill
Spaceman and a third-party Plinko under Games, then Instant Win; light app, PayPal in hours.

4Unibet
UKGC licence, Spaceman and several Plinko versions in the instant-win range; slowest card withdrawals of the four.
What the rows leave out. bet365 has the cleanest Games tab for finding Spaceman, its own Plinko sits next to it, and its PayPal withdrawal was the quickest we timed. William Hill buries Spaceman under Games, then Instant Win, and its Plinko is a different studio's version with a different RTP. Unibet has the widest instant-game range and the slowest card withdrawals. Betway holds a UK licence and carries Spaceman, but its crash range for UK accounts is thinner than its African lobbies suggest.
Every crash game, ranked by UK interest
Plinko in the UK
Plinko is not a crash game by mechanics, a ball falls through pegs into a multiplier bucket, but it lives in every crash lobby and in the UK it outsearches everything else. It is also the one with the most versions. Spribe's Plinko (RTP 97% to 99% by risk level) went offline at UK sites during the Spribe suspension; bet365's own Plinko, Hacksaw's Plinko, 1X2 Gaming's Plinko Go at Betfair (RTP 94%) and others stayed. Same board, different maths, so the RTP line in the info panel is the thing to read before the bet size.
The other reason Plinko is big in Britain is the app store. "Plinko Master", "Plink Space" and their cousins are fake-cash apps that have nothing to do with the casino game, and we get more questions about them than about the real thing. Our UK Plinko page covers the licensed versions, the demo and the difference; the Plinko reviews page deals with the apps.
Chicken Road in the UK
Chicken Road is the newest big game on this list and the clearest example of the UK split. InOut Games launched it in April 2024, Chicken Road 2 followed in 2025, and it is now the most searched step-based crash game in Britain. It is not at a single UKGC casino. The studio has no Gambling Commission licence and the sites that serve it to UK visitors are offshore.
That does not make the game a scam: the InOut demo is real, the 98% RTP is published, and the four difficulty lanes are a genuinely different format. It does mean that a British player on a Chicken Road site has no GAMSTOP, no ADR and no UK affordability rules, and that the "Chicken Road app" in the Play Store is not the game. The UK Chicken Road page has the demo and the honest version; the app page and review page take the two most common follow-up questions.
Aviator in the UK
Aviator is the game that made the category, and in Britain it is the one in limbo (the word, not the game). 6,600 searches a month, a studio licensed by the Gambling Commission since 2020, and an absence from UK lobbies that started with the October 2025 suspension and has outlasted the March 2026 reinstatement. Search for it now and you get offshore sites and APK portals.
Our UK Aviator page tracks which licensed sites have it back, runs Spribe's own demo, and explains why "aviator predictor" is the most searched scam in the category. Until the lobbies change, Spaceman is the licensed stand-in.
Spaceman in the UK
Spaceman is Pragmatic Play's crash game and the one most British players can actually open at a licensed casino today. RTP 96.5%, a single bet per round, and the one feature the rest of the genre still has not copied: a 50% cash-out button that banks half the stake and lets the other half ride. It is at bet365, William Hill, Unibet and most other UKGC casinos under Games or Instant Win.
The half cash-out is the reason Spaceman plays differently from Aviator, not the astronaut.
The UK Spaceman page has the lobby paths and the 拢 examples.
Limbo, Aviatrix and Crash X: the offshore tier
Three smaller names, each in the same legal box.
Limbo is the Stake original: no animation, you set a target multiplier, a number is drawn, you win if it clears. RTP 99%, the highest in the genre, and a theoretical 1,000,000x. Stake's UK-facing operation closed in 2025 when its licence partner left the market, so Limbo in this form is offshore only for a British player. The UK Limbo page explains the maths and what the 99% does and does not buy you.
Aviatrix is Aviator with a progression layer: an aircraft you customise and level up, tournaments, ranks. RTP 97%. Licensed in a dozen European markets but not the UK, so again offshore. The UK Aviatrix page separates the game from the leather-jacket brand that owns the search results.
Crash X is Turbo Games' bare-bones rocket, RTP 95% to 97% depending on configuration, max 1,000x. The UK search for it is "anthony joshua crash x", which we explain on the Crash X page because it is not what most people assume.
Cash or Crash: the licensed one nobody searches for
Evolution's Cash or Crash is the opposite of Chicken Road: fully licensed, at most UKGC live casinos, and almost nobody searches for it. A presenter draws 20 balls from a blimp; green raises the multiplier, red ends the round, and you can cash out all or half at any point. RTP 99.59%, the highest of any crash-style game at a licensed UK site. Our global Cash or Crash page has the full breakdown.
Playing sensibly
Crash rounds last ten seconds and the cash-out button is designed to be pressed in a hurry. Set a deposit limit before the first deposit, not after the first loss, switch on the reality check, and if it has stopped being fun, GAMSTOP blocks every licensed site for six months, a year or five years in one registration. GamCare runs the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, free, 24 hours. BeGambleAware.org has the rest. 18+ only, and licensed sites will verify it before your first withdrawal, sometimes before your first deposit.
Frequently asked questions
Are crash games legal in the UK?
Yes, when the operator holds a Gambling Commission licence. Spaceman, Cash or Crash and several versions of Plinko are live at UKGC casinos such as bet365, William Hill and Unibet. Aviator is in a grey patch after Spribe's licence suspension and reinstatement, and Chicken Road, Limbo, Aviatrix and Crash X are only found at offshore sites, where the UK's consumer protections do not apply. You must be 18 or over.
Which crash game is the most popular in the UK?
By search volume it is a three-way tie. Plinko gets about 7,300 UK searches a month, Aviator 6,600 and Chicken Road 6,300, with Spaceman at 5,100. Plinko and Spaceman are the ones most British players can actually open at a licensed casino, which is why they are the two we would start with.
Can I play Aviator at a UK casino?
As of our last check, not at the big UKGC brands. The Gambling Commission suspended Spribe's licence on 30 October 2025 over a hosting-permission issue and lifted the suspension at the end of March 2026, but Aviator had not reappeared at the major UK sites by the time we updated this page. Our UK Aviator page tracks the lobbies. Any site offering it to UK players today is offshore.
What payment methods do UK crash game sites accept?
Debit card (Visa or Mastercard), PayPal, Apple Pay and bank transfer through Open Banking are the standard four at licensed casinos. Credit cards have been banned for all online gambling since April 2020. Withdrawals go back to the same method, typically within a few hours to PayPal and one to three working days to a card.
What is GAMSTOP and does it cover crash games?
GAMSTOP is the free national self-exclusion scheme. Register once and every Gambling Commission licensed site must block you for the period you choose, which covers every crash game those sites carry. It does not reach offshore sites, which is the strongest practical argument for staying with licensed operators.
Is Chicken Road available in the UK?
Not at a licensed casino. InOut Games, the studio behind it, does not hold a Gambling Commission licence and we have not found the game at any UKGC operator. The sites that offer it to UK visitors are offshore, usually Curacao-licensed. The demo on our UK Chicken Road page is InOut's own and is free to play; the real-money version is a different legal proposition.
