Spaceman in the UK: the crash game that never left licensed sites

Most of the 5,100 UK searches a month for 'spaceman' want the Netflix film. The rest want Pragmatic Play's crash game, which has a claim no other crash title in Britain can make: it has been on Gambling Commission sites since 2022 without a break. Here is how it plays, what it pays, and where.

Spaceman is a crash game by Pragmatic Play: an astronaut drifts upward, a multiplier climbs from 1.00x, and you press Cashout before he vanishes. It is not the 2024 Netflix film with Adam Sandler, which is what most of Britain is searching for and which has a short paragraph further down. The game arrived in March 2022 and in the UK it has one distinction worth the whole page: while Aviator and Plinko vanished from licensed casinos for months during Spribe's licence suspension, Spaceman stayed. If you played a crash game on a British site in early 2026, it was probably this one.

The global Spaceman page has the provider background and the full feature list. This is the UK version: pounds, the Gambling Commission, the stake caps some sites apply, and where the astronaut is.

At any licensed UK casino you can play for free once you are registered and age-verified, no deposit needed. That is the only honest free version.

Where to play Spaceman in the UK

Every site below holds a Gambling Commission licence, carries Pragmatic Play's Spaceman with the full 50% cash-out, shows the RTP in the game's info panel, takes debit cards and PayPal, and sits behind GAMSTOP. The order is ours: it weighs how easy the game is to find in the lobby, the stake cap the site applies, and how quickly withdrawals landed for us.

bet365 leads because Spaceman is two taps from the home page and the £100 cap means you are not boxed in. Betway is the only site we use that carries Spaceman and Aviator in the same tab, which makes it the place to try both with one account. William Hill is the simplest, PayPal both ways, though our account was capped at £5 a round. Unibet's open-banking deposit is instant and the lobby puts Spaceman next to Plinko. Paddy Power, Betfair, MrQ and PlayOJO also carry it under UK licences; we have not run enough withdrawals through them to rank them.

How to play Spaceman with £ examples

The rules fit on a napkin. The 50% button is the one thing to learn.

  1. Open Spaceman from the casino lobby. Under Games, Instant Win or Crash depending on the site. Lobby search works at all four above.
  2. Set a stake. £1 minimum. The 2x button doubles it, the undo button reverses that. Confirm before the countdown ends; there is a short bet window between rounds.
  3. Watch the multiplier. It starts at 1.00x and climbs faster as it goes. The round can end at any moment, including at 1.00x before you can react.
  4. Cash out, fully or by half. Press Cashout to take the whole bet at the current multiplier. Press Cashout 50% to take half and keep the other half flying. Either can be set in advance as an auto trigger.
  5. Or lose it. If the astronaut vanishes first, whatever is still in play is gone. Next round in seven seconds.

The 50% cash-out, worked through: £2 stake, auto 50% at 2.00x. If the round reaches 2x, £1 is paid out at 2x, so £2 lands in your balance and your original £2 is already covered. The other £1 keeps flying. If the astronaut vanishes at 3.5x, you finish the round with £2, level. If you cash the second half out at 3.5x, you finish with £5.50. If the round ends before 2x, you lose the full £2.

Spaceman's cash-out panel showing the full and 50% cash-out buttons mid-round Full cash-out, or half now and half riding. It feels like a hedge. It is two bets.

That feels like a free hedge and people play it as one. It is not. Each half is a separate bet on the same curve with the same 3.5% edge, so a session of 50% cash-outs at 2x then letting the rest ride returns exactly what a session of one bet at 2x and another at your "ride" target would. What the button does change is texture: fewer total losses, smaller wins, longer sessions. For a lot of players that is the point.

A plain worked session: £1 a round, full auto cash-out at 2.00x, 100 rounds. Spaceman reaches 2x in about 48% of rounds, so you win £1 about 48 times and lose £1 about 52 times, for an expected result of £3.50 down on £100 staked. Our last three sessions at those settings finished £11 up, £22 down and £4 down. The next hundred rounds do not remember any of them.

Deposits and withdrawals at UK sites

Debit card is the default and the quickest: Visa or Mastercard debit, instant in, one to three working days out. PayPal is nearly as quick both ways and keeps the card off the casino. Apple Pay works for deposits at all four sites above, with withdrawals returning to the underlying card. Open banking (Trustly, Pay by Bank) is instant in and often same-day out, and is what we use first now.

Credit cards are banned for online gambling in Great Britain and have been since April 2020. That includes PayPal accounts funded only by a credit card. Minimum deposits are £5 to £10. Withdrawals return to the deposit method and the first one is held until you have sent ID. Send it on the day you register.

RTP, odds and the stake caps

Pragmatic Play fixes Spaceman's RTP at 96.5% and the casino cannot change it. The multiplier distribution follows the usual crash curve: the chance of reaching a multiplier is roughly the RTP divided by that multiplier, so 2x about 48%, 5x about 19%, 10x about 9.6%, 100x just under 1%. The hard cap at 5,000x ends any round that gets there and pays everyone still in. How crash games work has the full derivation.

Against Aviator's 97%, Spaceman costs £5 more per £1,000 staked over a long run. That is real and it is small. The £1 minimum matters more in practice: an Aviator player can spend an evening at 10p a round and a Spaceman player cannot.

The stake caps are the UK-specific wrinkle. Since 2025, online slots in Great Britain carry a stake limit of £5 per spin for over-25s and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds. Crash games are not slots, and some operators treat Spaceman as a casino game with a £100 ceiling; others have simply applied the slot limits across their Games section, which is why William Hill capped our account at £5 and PlayOJO shows £2 and £5. Neither approach is wrong. Check the rules panel before assuming you can stake more than a fiver.

Spaceman statistics panel showing the distribution of recent round multipliers The stats panel. Interesting, honest, and no help at all with the next round.

The in-game stats panel shows the last 50 to 500 rounds grouped by multiplier band. It is accurate and it is a trap: a run of low rounds does not make a high one due, because each round's result is generated independently and hashed before the astronaut moves. Use it to understand the curve. Do not use it to time anything.

Online gambling is lawful here only with a Gambling Commission licence, and every site we list holds one. The conditions of that licence are what you see at sign-up: a deposit-limit prompt, a reality-check timer, ID verification before the first withdrawal and before any free play, no credit cards, and a GAMSTOP link in the footer that blocks every licensed site at once if you need it.

Spaceman's supplier, Pragmatic Play, has held its UK licence continuously, which is why the game stayed on British sites through the Spribe suspension of October 2025 to 2026 that took Aviator, Plinko and Mines offline. Offshore sites also carry Spaceman and will take a UK player; the game is identical there and the protections are absent. We do not list them. 18+ only.

Spaceman or Aviator?

The crash game question in the UK now that both are on licensed sites. Aviator has the better RTP (97% against 96.5%), the lower minimum (10p against £1), two independent bet panels and the live bets wall that makes it feel like a crowd. Spaceman has the 50% cash-out, a cleaner interface, a stats panel, an animation-off toggle for weak connections, and the practical point that it never went anywhere. Our own split: Aviator for a long cheap session, Spaceman when we want to hedge mid-round. Neither beats the other over time by more than half a percent, and neither beats the house. Aviator in the UK has the full story of the plane's return.

The film, for the people who meant the film

Spaceman (2024) is a Netflix film directed by Johan Renck, starring Adam Sandler as a Czech cosmonaut alone on a long mission and Carey Mulligan as the wife he left behind, with Paul Dano voicing a large philosophical spider. Reviews were mixed. It is on Netflix UK. It is not a casino game, and the casino game was not named after it; Pragmatic Play's Spaceman came out two years earlier.

Strategy, in one paragraph

Set your cash-out before the round and let the auto trigger press the button, because the 7-second cycle and a thumb at 2x is where casual sessions leak. If you want the 50% button, set that in advance too, and understand it as two bets rather than insurance. Stake 1% to 2% of what you brought: £1 rounds on a £50 to £100 session. Write down a stop-loss and a stop-win and withdraw at either. Ignore the stats panel for timing. Martingale from £1 needs £1,024 at the tenth double and a ten-loss run at 2x arrives about once every 1,400 rounds, which at seven seconds a round is under three hours. The strategy guide has the long version and it does not beat 96.5% either.

For the rest of what is legal here, Plinko in the UK covers the drop game and the UK crash games hub covers the map. Spaceman rounds restart every seven seconds, which is faster than Aviator and fast enough that an hour disappears. Set a deposit limit before the first round. If it stops being fun, GamCare is on 0808 8020 133 and GAMSTOP is one form. 18+ only.

Frequently asked questions

Is Spaceman legal in the UK?

Yes. Pragmatic Play holds a Gambling Commission supplier licence and Spaceman has been available at licensed UK casinos since 2022, including bet365, Betway, William Hill, Unibet, Paddy Power, Betfair, MrQ and PlayOJO. It is the one crash game that stayed on British sites throughout the Spribe suspension. 18+ only, ID verified.

What is the RTP of Spaceman?

96.5%, set by Pragmatic Play and the same at every casino. The house edge is 3.5%, which is a little higher than Aviator's 3% and Plinko's 1% to 3%. Over a long run the game returns £96.50 per £100 staked across all players; no cash-out target changes that.

What is the 50% cash-out in Spaceman?

A button that pays out half your stake at the current multiplier and leaves the other half flying. You can also set it to trigger automatically at a chosen multiplier. It is Spaceman's one real difference from Aviator, which offers two separate bets instead. It does not change the house edge; it splits one bet into two.

What is the minimum bet on Spaceman in the UK?

£1 at every UK site we have checked, which is higher than Aviator's 10p. The maximum per round is operator-dependent: £100 at some, £2 to £5 at others that apply the online slot stake limits to it. The game's rules panel shows the limits for the site you are on.

What is the maximum win on Spaceman?

5,000x the stake, which is a hard cap in the game itself: the multiplier stops at 5,000x and pays everyone still flying. On a £100 bet that is £500,000, though most UK sites cap the stake well below £100. Rounds above 100x happen a few times a day; 5,000x is a few times a year.

Can I play Spaceman for free in the UK?

Only inside a licensed casino after registration and age verification, which the Commission requires before any free play. Pragmatic Play does not host a public Spaceman demo the way Spribe does for Aviator. The free mode uses the same odds and the same 50% cash-out; it simply does not pay.

Is Spaceman better than Aviator?

Aviator pays slightly more over time (97% against 96.5%) and has the lower 10p minimum. Spaceman has the 50% cash-out, a cleaner interface, a stats panel and, in the UK, the practical advantage of never having disappeared. If you only want one, take Aviator for the edge; if you like hedging mid-round, Spaceman does it better.

Is Spaceman the Adam Sandler film?

No. Spaceman (2024) is a Netflix film with Adam Sandler and Carey Mulligan about a cosmonaut and a spider. This page is about Spaceman the casino game by Pragmatic Play, released in March 2022, where an astronaut rises while a multiplier climbs. The two share a name and nothing else.
