Balloon by SmartSoft: the crash game you pump yourself

No plane, no countdown, no other players. You hold a button, a balloon inflates, the multiplier climbs, and you let go before it pops. Rounds last seconds. It is the most stripped-back crash game we play, and the one that empties a balance fastest if you are not careful.

SmartSoft Gaming is the Georgian studio behind JetX, which is the only crash game that has ever seriously competed with Aviator. Balloon is its other crash title, released in June 2019, and it could not be more different in feel. JetX is a session game with three bet slots and a jackpot. Balloon is a reflex test. You hold, it grows, you let go. We rate it as the quickest way to lose a bankroll in the crash lobby, and also as oddly good fun for ten minutes at a time.

What is Balloon?

Balloon is a single-player crash game. There is no live bets panel, no chat and no countdown between rounds, because there are no other players in your round. You set a stake, press and hold the pump button, and a cartoon balloon starts inflating while a multiplier climbs from 1.00x. Release the button and you are paid the stake times whatever the counter shows. Hold too long and the balloon bursts, the screen flashes, and the stake is gone.

That hold-and-release control is the whole identity of the game. In Aviator you watch a curve and click a button. In Balloon your thumb is physically on the trigger the entire time, which makes every round feel like your decision in a way that is slightly uncomfortable once you understand that the burst point was decided before you touched anything.

The balloon changes colour as the multiplier grows, which is a nice touch for a game with no other visual feedback. Past about 3x it has gone through most of the palette and you know you are in rare territory.

How to play Balloon

  1. Set your stake. Minimum 0.10 at most operators, though some run 0.20. Maximum 100 per round is the usual ceiling.
  2. Press and hold the pump button. The round starts the moment you touch it. The multiplier begins at 1.00x.
  3. Watch the counter, not the balloon. The size of the balloon is a rough guide. The number is what you are paid.
  4. Release to cash out. Your winnings land instantly. There is no partial cash-out and no second bet slot.
  5. Or watch it pop. If the burst comes first, the stake is lost. The next round starts whenever you press again.

The original build has no auto cash-out and no autoplay, which is unusual for a 2019 crash game and makes Balloon a worse choice for anyone who wants to run a fixed-target system. Some operators have since integrated newer SmartSoft builds with an auto cash-out field, so if you see one, use it. Human reaction time is the biggest leak in this game, bigger than in Aviator, because the rounds are so short.

The SmartSoft Balloon demo screen: balloon, stake selector and the pump button 2.3x and still holding. The balloon reaches this point roughly four rounds in ten.

Why the rounds are so fast

A full Aviator round, including the five-second betting window, takes anywhere from eight seconds to a minute. A Balloon round has no betting window and no shared timer. The multiplier climbs quickly, bursts under 1.50x more often than feels fair, and the next round is one press away. We counted 70 rounds in ten minutes on one session, which is roughly three times the pace of Aviator.

That speed is the product and the problem. At a 1% stake per round, 70 rounds at a 4% house edge costs about 2.8% of your bankroll in expectation, every ten minutes. Over an hour you have cycled through the equivalent of 400 Aviator rounds. The maths per round is no worse than any other crash game; you just get through a lot more of it.

If you want to play Balloon without that happening, set a round limit, not a time limit. Fifty rounds, then stop, whatever the balance says.

Balloon RTP and the numbers that matter

SmartSoft publishes Balloon at 96% RTP. That is a point below JetX and Aviator (both 97%), and the game is built so operators can run it at a lower setting if they choose. Sigma's listing shows a 95.5% to 98% range, slotcatalog shows 96%, and we have seen 95.5% in the information panel at one site we will not name. Open the "i" panel in the game at your casino and read the figure there.

What 96% means in practice: the chance of the balloon reaching any multiplier m is roughly 96% divided by m. So about 64% of rounds make it to 1.50x, 48% to 2x, 19% to 5x and under 10% to 10x. A 100x round happens about once every 100 rounds in theory, which is often enough that you will see it in a long session and rare enough that chasing it is how most people go broke.

Release point Chance it gets there (96% RTP)
1.20x 80%
1.50x 64%
2.00x 48%
3.00x 32%
5.00x 19%
10x 9.6%

There is no release point that beats the edge. Whatever target you choose, the balloon gets there 4% less often than you would need for break-even. Low targets lose slowly, high targets lose in bursts.

Balloon vs JetX vs Aviator

Same studio as JetX, same maths family as Aviator, and yet it plays like neither.

Balloon JetX Aviator
Developer SmartSoft SmartSoft Spribe
RTP 96% (operator-configurable) 97% 97%
Bets per round 1 3 2
Auto cash-out Newer builds only Yes Yes
Jackpot No Progressive No
Other players visible No Yes Yes
Typical round length 2 to 10 seconds 10 to 60 seconds 10 to 60 seconds

Our honest take: if you have ten minutes and want something that feels like a game rather than a chart, Balloon is better than it looks. If you are sitting down for an hour, JetX gives you more to do and a better return, and Aviator gives you the social panel that makes long sessions bearable. Balloon is the one we open last and close first.

Where to play Balloon

Balloon is a SmartSoft title, so you find it wherever the SmartSoft catalogue is integrated, which in practice means the big international bookmakers rather than licensed European casinos. These four carry it alongside JetX:

A note on "balloon predictor" apps

The burst point for each round is generated before you press the button. Nothing in the app, your timing or the colour of the balloon reveals it. Any app or Telegram channel selling Balloon signals is selling random numbers. We explain the mechanism in how crash games work, and the scam side of it in are crash games rigged?. Balloon is for adults only and plays fast enough that limits matter more than usual.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Balloon game work?

You place a stake, then hold the pump button. The balloon inflates and a multiplier rises from 1.00x. Release the button to cash out at the multiplier shown. If the balloon bursts while you are still holding, the stake is lost. The burst point is decided before the round starts, so holding longer does not 'use up' safe time.

What is the RTP of Balloon?

SmartSoft publishes Balloon at 96%, which is the figure most operators run. The game is built so the casino can configure a lower setting, and some listings show a range from 95.5% up to 98%. Check the information panel inside the game at the site you use; the number there is the one that applies to you.

Is Balloon the same as JetX?

Same developer, same maths family, different pace and controls. JetX has three bet slots, auto cash-out, a jackpot and a visible flight. Balloon has one bet, a hold-and-release control and rounds that are often over in under five seconds. If JetX is a session game, Balloon is a snack.

Can I play Balloon for free?

Most bookmakers that carry it offer a demo toggle inside the game, so yes, without an account. SmartSoft does not host a public demo the way Spribe does for Aviator, so there is no embed on this page. Note that the demo is blocked from some countries, the UK included.

Where can I play Balloon?

At bookmakers that carry the SmartSoft Gaming catalogue: 1xBet, Mostbet, Melbet, Pin-Up and Betwinner are the ones we use. It is rarer at licensed European casinos, where SmartSoft's distribution is thinner. Our country pages list what works where you are.

What is the maximum win in Balloon?

It depends on the operator. The multiplier itself is uncapped in principle, but each site sets a maximum payout per round, and in our experience 100x is where the game is usually configured to burst at the very latest. Treat anything above 10x as a rare event rather than a target.
